The bike is lean from the factory at light throttle and lower rpm's and while you just exacerbated this issue by adding an exhaust there is not enough load on the motor in those areas to cause you to do damage to your valves. Do a little research to pick the best one.Įven though it is my best interest to promote the idea that you will hurt your bike, you will no hurt the bike There are lots of flash reviews on this forum. One of our members on the ADVRider forum got an Akra exhaust for his F700 and simply readjusted his Af-Xied to compensate. I’m happy with the add-on, so it’s all good. ![]() Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a source for getting a flash on my F700. The Af-Xied module may be available for sport bikes like your Yamaha, but at a $150 cost, a flash is probably way more bang for the buck. This may not be totally accurate, but worth checking. You could try wiping out your exhaust outlet as an indication of where your air/fuel mixture is. This tells me there is a very fine line between too rich and too lean. Surprisingly, my gas mileage has consistently stayed constant at 55 mpg measured at every tank fillup from purchasing the bike new. I adjusted back to my first setting and it’s working great. I initially had it set One click richer and got heavy soot when I’d wipe it out with my fingertip. With my present adjustment, there is a very slight amount on a white paper towel after 500 miles or so. There was no carbon soot whatsoever with the factory setting. Another change observed was in the muffler outlet. After installing the Af-Xied and adjusting it one setting richer than the factory mix, the vibes went away. My F700GS was too lean from the factory causing a noticeable level of highway speed engine vibration, not uncommon in most vertical twins. The module has a dial adjustment to control which way it changes the mix. It tricks the O2 sensor into thinking the mix is too lean causing it to enrichen the mixture. ![]() Interestingly, a common mod in the BMW world is an Af-Xied air/fuel controller add-on. I recommend a good flash as soon as you can manage it. Your lower gear jerkiness is an indication of an overly lean condition. The bike was already too lean (for emissions) from the factory.
